J-Buckle Genetics Document Increased Profitability for Commercial Bull Customers

Recent carcass information on a pen of steers fed at Royal Beef, Scott City, KS, and sold through U.S. Premium Beef, documents the fact J-Buckle genetics are right for the industry.

The 29 head pen of steers had an average hot carcass weight of 848.8 pounds. Twenty-five head or 86% were USDA Choice or higher. More than 49% of the pen met specifications for Certified Angus Beef or Black Canyon Premium Reserve. The 29 steers posted yield grades of 1-YG 1, 6-YG 2, 21-YG 3, and 1-YG 4. Overall, the pen qualified for premiums of $81.15 per head over the cash market ranking the steers in the top 25% of all U.S. Premium Beef cattle processed for the respective month.

Approximately 85 full and half siblings to these cattle sell March 26, 2011 at the J-Buckle Ranch 3rd Annual Bull Sale at Elk City, Oklahoma.
