Feeding cow Breeding Philosophy

We built our Angus herd over the years with a handful of females. With registered genetics, such as Rito 2100 and DHD Traveler 6807, we began building a herd that would fast forward us into the 21st century, and produce an end-product that meets the consumers’ needs. A.I. and embryo transfer have enabled J-Buckle Ranches to grow the herd while rapidly improving the genetic predictability.

We continue to shape our herd by analyzing the results from our commercial Angus herd. Our commercial herd has been built from our registered Angus herd. Each year we evaluate our registered stock for the top 5% performers. The outliers are sold or moved into our commercial business. Similarly, we test our genetic decisions via our commercial herd. The results speak the truth about EPDs and we take advantage of these results to guide us with our registered herd.

We have geared our genetics platform to perform well under an all-natural and/or an organic feeding program. In addition, we are focused on genetics that provide tenderness, yield low birth weights with calving ease, and return exceptional $Beef values.

We rely on EPDs and individual performance records. Old fashioned phenotypic evaluation still holds high marks in our guide to the selection process.

Most importantly, we know our continued success depends on customer satisfaction. We measure our success by maintaining communication with our customers in order to evaluate their return on investment.
